Unpack and live like a local is the Tour de France experience we provide. We do not follow the Tour so there's no daily grind of changing hotels or transferring stage to stage. Our tours are all about the riding so we take you on a holiday with your bike and get you to a couple of stages of the race when it's in the Alpes.
The rest of the time you will unpack on the main street of Le Bourg-d'Oisans, at the foot of Alpe d'Huez where every day is geared up for you to do nothing else but ride your bike up those famous mountains you've seen on the televison. Get ready to relax, immerse yourself in the local French culture, kick back in the town's bars and cafes and have the time of your life.
As a group we eat, sleep and ride together each day which creates a personal, 'family road trip' atmosphere that has you sharing your achievements and your failures and supporting and inspiring each other every step of the way. Lifelong friendships are formed and amazing memories shared with other likeminded people gathered together, living the same dream. With the perfect balance of riding and relaxing each afteroon and having almost everything included except your beer and lunch money, all you need to bring is your riding legs, your carbon steed (though bike hire is offered for an additional cost) and a great sense of fun. We'll take care of the rest! Also check out our Tour de France Pyrenees tour >>

client review
The Alpes tour was fantastic. This is a highly professional team with a personal touch. All you need to do is cycle, eat, sleep and then repeat. A great balance between terrific cycling experiences, fun and food without having to worry about anything other than your legs. Will be back for more.

on tour with
henk vogels
When we say "on tour with Henk Vogels" this is literally what happens. Henk stays in the chalets and hotels with us, eats breakfast and dinner with us each day, rides in the group and acts as a guide both on and off the bike. On the days where we watch the Tour de France on the television in the privacy of our chalets or at the local bar, you are treated to Henk's knowledgable and insighful commentary and larrikinism. Henk also offers on the spot training for anyone wanting to improve on their descending skills.
FULLY SUPPORTED
All Velo Tours Australia tours are fully guided and supported with vans stocked with food & water, you can call it a day at any time.

Have you ever wondered what happens each day on a tour? Here are is an example of what to expect on our Alpes experience....
The main street of Le Bourg-d'Oisans, sitting at the base of Alpe d'Huez
One of our fully self contained chalets just a stones throw away from each other
The Tour de France is always lots of fun, especially the mountainside stages!
Dinner each night is where all the chatter about the day's activites takes place and where everyone gets to know each other. Regardless of whether you come alone or with a friend or two, everyone goes home having made new lifelong friendships and promises of a home town visit or a catch up ride some time soon.
ARRIVAL and hotel stay
Your tour begins with arrival into Geneva International Airport before lunch for the transfer to our 3 star hotel on Lake Annecy for 5 nights. We get settled in, our bikes put together in time for welcome drinks on the deck and a brief of what's to come across the tour then dinner together in the hotel restaurant.
HOME BASE in le bourg d'osians
Home base for the next 5 days is in either ski chalets on the main street of town, directly across the road from each other or apartment/deuplexes in the centre of town. Each chalet/apartment has 5-6 bedrooms, 3-6 bathrooms, laundry, large living areas for relaxing after the rides and private gardens and large decks for our exclusive use. All venues are a short walk from all the restaurants, bars and supermarket.
daily rides
The rides depart each morning after breakfast with fully stocked support vans transporting your day bags packed with what ever you need on the rides but don't want to carry in your jersey. The vans are always at the top of the climbs and up and down the road throughout the day. The rides are usually always back by lunchtime so we can relax at the houses or the bars in town while watching the tour on the big television.
tour de france stage days
We see 2 - 3 stages of the tour - a start, a mountain stage and a finish. This is not always possible but we try to make it happen when we can. When riding to a stage start, staff look after your bikes at a local cafe while you take in the sights and atmosphere of the Tour de France sign on activities. On the mountain stages, Velo Tours set up in a prime position on the side of the road where you can relax inside the tent with snacks and refreshments while you wait for the caravan and Tour festivities to arrive.
NIGHTLY DINNERS AND LUNCHES
All dinners are included in your package to take the stress out of wondering where to go. We've done all the leg work for you, having dined at the same restaurants for many years, knowing which ones to avoid. Dinner is 3 courses offering a great range of fresh local products. We also have a pizza and salad night at home in the garden the night prior to our departure to ensure you get to bed nice and early and are rested before tackling Ventoux! Lunches can be prepared at home from supplies you've bought from the local supermarket or taken in the cafes on our return from the rides or at a cafe en route. Lunch and alcohol are not included in our packages.
THE CHALETS
Our ski chalets offer modern decor with all the conveniences of home. One premises contains 5 x bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a main lounge, kitchen, dining room, laundry, garage, outdoor deck with seating and is just a 200m walk from the centre of town. Our other chalet is directly across the road, next to the supermarket and contains a kitchen, lounge, laundry, 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, garage, billiard table, outdoor deck and seating. We have the entire villas and grounds to ourselves for the week so you can relax and feel like a true local. Rooms are twin share or, limited number of single subsidy available
bike hire
If you're travelling elsewhere before or after the tour and don't want the hassle of dragging your bike bag around Europe with you why not ask us about hiring one of our Wilier bikes, specifically geared for climbing those mountains.

- Velo Tours exceeded all expectations. The French Alps tour was amazing in every way. Crazy amount of support on and off the bike. Nothing was too much trouble for the team. If you want a cycling tour that all you have to do is show up ready for a good time and have someone else take care of all the details for you, look no further than Velo Tours. Get on it.★★★★★Mike S, Palm Beach, QLDI've just returned from cycling in the French Alps. This was my 3rd trip with Velo Tours and I can assure you they are the best. Kerry & Kim along with Tim & Gordy guarantee a great cycling trip and take care of everything. I have recommended them to friends with the guarantee that if they are not happy I'll pay for the trip, this demonstrates just how good they are.★★★★★Matt M, Yamba, NSWOutstanding Alps-Ventoux tour last week that far exceeded my expectations and has me planning my next tour already! Our base in the Alps was stunning and the cycling was exceptional. I've left with a real sense of accomplishment after summiting some world-famous climbs, and I could not recommend Velo Tours highly enough! Keep up the great work Kerry and Kim - you put on an amazing show!!★★★★★Vanessa H, Adelaide, SA
